I always love January…it is the month named after Janus, the god who has two faces, one looking back and one looking forward. Looking back, I see the missed opportunities of 2011 as well as the moments that touched my heart. Now I look forward and resolve to make a promise to myself that I don’t think I can keep, to give soft answers, to stop magnifying small problems, to find time to be kind, to forgive an injustice that I have held onto, to truly understand a point of view that is different from my own, to take care of myself…to say I love you often, to consider all questions sacred… I vow to make this the best year of my life. How can you make this the best year of your life?

As a senior, I definitely will try my best to make this the best year possible by cherishing the ends and embracing the new beginnings. Last semester in Life Choices, we learned about big rocks and little pebbles in our life. Big rocks symbolized the important things like spending time with our family, and little pebbles symbolized the trivial things like small homework assignments due the next day. We learned that all little pebbles and big rocks will fit into your jar (your life) if you put more focus on the big rocks and put them in your jar first. Last year, I found myself caught up in my busy life and began to forget about the big rocks. This year, I will make 2012 the best year by focusing more time on my family, my friends, my extended relatives, and my community.

I can make this the best year of my life by staying positive. The way i perceive everyday things can make a total difference on if i have a good year or a bad year. If i appreiciate the little things and notice the good going on around me I’m sure I will have a better day every day and a good year. It is up to me whether i make the best of things or if i decide to be negative. So I hope to continue my year in a positive manor which is a small way i can make this eyar better for me.
