I find myself asking the same question over and over. Does God really intend for bad things to happen to good people? I have found myself leaning towards beliefs that a Deist Catholic would have. I believe God created the earth and everything on it and I believe the bible is true. However I believe that once God created us and put everything together he let it be and take its own course. So he doesn’t decide or control our every movement or thought process. Therefore he does not intend for violence to be present in the world. What is your opinion? What do you think God’s role in our life is?

I don’t think that God puts people through bad things on purpose. I don’t believe that He would intentionaly cause harm to his creation. However, I don’t think he takes extraordinary measures to stop bad things from happening. Tough things happen, but that’s just life. I think that once a bad thing happens, he is there to help whoever was affected get through it. I believe that he will guide us through whatever we face in life, both good and bad.
I do not think that God causes good or bad things to happen to certain people; that’s just life. For me, I cannot imagine God as someone who blesses some people over others. Good things happen, and bad things happen, and you can thank God for the good, and allow him to help you with the bad. But, His role in our life is not to control it, but rather to be our constant love and support, no matter what happens.
I personally believe that God does play an active role in our lives. No, I don’t think He plans for bad things to happen, but He is in our lives in the way that He helps us deal with these hard times. I think that He doesn’t make a tornado hit and destroy a town–that is mother nature. But I do believe that He is present in the people that come and help after the tornado. He sends us friends and family to get us through these hard times, and He blesses us with better opportunities the next time around. Sometimes bad things happen, but He will always be there for us after the fact to help us get through.

I don’t believe that God wanted violence and tragic things to happen to anyone let alone good people. There are some terrible things that happen like natural disasters and illnesses but sometimes something bad happens due to a bad decision. God gave us the power of free will which is a great thing but also not such a great thing. We have the ability to make our own decisions. I don’t think that God intended for us to be perfect and always make the right choices because we are all born with original sin. I think that God hopes we will use our free will to choose to believe in him.
I personally don’t think God makes bad things happen to good people. That’s just part of life. He would never want to purposefully harm his creation. I think God is a genuine person and thinking of him as someone with hate, violence, and anger isn’t what I like to see. I think the fact that God gave us the power to chose right from wrong helps us in decision making. And if we make the wrong decision that leads us down the wrong path I feel like it’s not God’s fault. He always has a hand in everything we do but he most definitely doesn’t control us.
I personally don’t believe that God intends for bad things to happen in the world. I’m not exactly sure what I believe God is here for but I don’t think he has the ability to make things happen and change something that is already going on in the world. I think the world was created and then God had to let things happen on their own. We all have free will- the ability to make our own choices- so God must not be able to cause bad things to happen or make decisions for someone else. I’d like to think that he feels pain when we feel pain because what happens is beyond his control, and also celebrates good things with us too.

While I do not believe that God causes bad things to happen in the world, I do believe that he allows bad things to happen. God has the power to keep them from happening, but, for reasons we may not understand, he does not prevent them. For most people this is difficult to comprehend- why would a God who is supposed to promote good allow this to happen? But we have a much narrower view of life than he does, and need to realize that perhaps good is intended to come from the bad. God gave his creation free will, so people mess up and as a result the world isn’t perfect. There is bad and there is good, and for me, the fact that there is good in the world is proof that God is active in our lives. So yes, God allows bad things to happen, but he doesn’t cause them and he is also the reason that good exists in the world.
