You hear something similar to this every day in the halls. “Did you study for that test?” “No, i’m definitely going to fail!” In reality though this girl studied for a good 2 hours. Why is it that she felt the need to sound so indifferent about her studies? Why is it that we won’t always admit to caring about our grades and how we do in school? We put ourselves down constantly and try to seem like we don’t really care. Are we scared of being judged or is it something else?

I disagree. I honestly do not think that people think about what people think of them, here at Assumption. I could see this happening at a public school where people were more embarrassed by their intelligence, but not here. I think that yes, people are scared of being called a “nerd” or a “geek”. Here at Assumption I do not think people care about this, because I don’t think that anybody here would call people names. Our parents spend a lot of money to let us go here and I don’t think people would waste their money. Sometimes, I think people might tell others they didn’t study to sound smarter, or maybe to make other people feel better but I don’t think that we do that here.

I think people are too worried about their reputations to even think about this. I do believe that reputations are important. In order to have a good reputation though it seems like one would want others to know how much effort and time they put in to studying. It’s sad if this is what we have to worry about.
